
One of Jim's favorite past times is helping his own kids connect with nature, whether it be going on a fishing picnic, looking for salamanders under downed logs, or checking out a local vernal pool in the spring.

Jim Oehler is the principal staff member of New England Woodlands & Wildlife, LLC. Originally from Wisconsin, Jim has been living in New England for most of the past 16 years.
In the 12 years since earning his graduate degree from the University of New Hampshire, Jim has been helping to maintain public lands with the FL Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (1995-1997), Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife (MassWildlife: 1997-2002), and New Hampshire Fish & Game Department (2002-present). His experiences with those agencies primarily involved land conservation and woodland and wildlife habitat management. He also played an instrumental role in developing New Hampshire's first Wildlife Action Plan and its complex set of habitat maps. He also spent a few years helping towns and landtrusts with identifying priority areas for conservation.
Jim is a Certified Wildlife Biologist with The Wildlife Society and received the New England Chapter of TWS’s Professional Achievement award for his wildlife habitat work with MassWildlife. He is also a member of The Nature Conservancy, the Society for the Protection of NH's Forests, and is currently chair of the Northeast Habitat Technical Committee, a group of state agency habitat biologists from the Northeast Region that meet occassionally to coordinate across state lines. A few years ago Jim lead an effort for the Habitat Technical Committee to publish a guidebook on managing grasslands, shrublands, and young forest habitats in the Northeast.
Jim has a very diverse skill set that makes him uniquely qualified to help you assess and care for your woodlands including considerable knowledge of wildlife and wildlife habitats in New England, forest management, GPS/GIS technology, technical and popular writing and more. Jim has also developed strong working relationships with natural resource professionals from a diversity of disciplines – natural community ecology, plant biology, forestry, conservation biology, wildlife ecology, natural history, and much, much more. If Jim doesn’t have a particular needed skill, he knows who does, and will work with them to provide you excellent service and a very high quality product.
